Center For Research and International Development

The Center for Research and International Development (CRID) serves the FUTO Community by overseeing Research, Development and Innovation (RDI), providing accurate information for decision making, as well as sourcing external funding in support of RDI and university-wide initiatives.

The Center functions within the framework of the Office of the Vice Chancellor (OVC).

  • The Center Research and International Development is implementing the University’s strategic plan by galvanizing the FUTO Research Enterprise to foster a stronger research culture, with clearly measurable output, in line with the Quest for Excellence.

  • The focus of the Center’s 4-Point Agenda is to develop lasting cross-disciplinary research collaborations that address critical needs of the society as well as develop new products, processes and technologies, in line with international best practices.

The Center is the University focal point for the following issues and more:

#  Providing direction on the University’s Research Priority Areas (RPAs)

#  Promoting new research by facilitating cross-disciplinary collaborations and providing avenues for intellectual engagement and networking.

#  Identification of local and international funding sources and wide dissemination of funding information to the University Community

#  Providing education and tools for proposal and grant writing

Engaging University researchers and organizing interdisciplinary groups of researchers to respond to funding opportunities.

#  Building partnerships with industry, government, funding agencies and academia 

#  Research grants management, in line with the FUTO Research Policy.

#  Information and advice on scholarships and research fellowship opportunities

The Center works closely with the School Research Committees (SRCs) to disseminate information to the Departmental Research Committees (DRCs) and ultimately to Research Groups and Individual Researchers.

Emeka Emmanuel Oguzie is a Professor of Chemistry at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) and leads the multidisciplinary Electrochemistry and Materials Science Research Unit (EMRU: www.emru-futo.com). He holds a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Nigeria Nsukka, M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry from the Federal University of Technology Owerri and Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Calabar. He was a visiting (CAS-TWAS) postdoctoral research fellow (2006-2007) and TWAS-UNESCO Associate (2008-2011) at the State Key Laboratory for Corrosion and Protection, Institute of Metal Research, Shenyang China.
